Day 07

Barrios Mágicos

January 7th

The city center has a unique charm. As I walk through it, time seems to flow at a different pace.

The cobblestone streets slow my steps, inviting me to admire the imposing Cathedral of San Ildefonso. Along La Mejorada, on the way to the Museum of Yucatecan Song, I gaze at the majestic Arco de Dragones.

I see beautiful old mansions come to life as restaurants in La Ermita, and I stop to listen to the Yucatecan serenade in Santa Lucía.

Santa Ana is my favorite neighborhood. Maybe it’s the crafts mixed with the aroma of Yucatecan food at the market, but sitting in the “Los Confidentes” chairs at the park, enjoying the breeze and listening to the music at the Remate de Paseo Montejo every Saturday night reminds me why these are called Mérida’s magical neighborhoods.
