Day 02

Chicxulub

January 2nd

The coasts of Yucatán are undoubtedly among my favorite settings.
Sinking my feet into the fine sand of Chicxulub, watching the ebb and flow of the waves, and letting the sea breeze tangle my hair have become some of my favorite pastimes.

I’m amazed when I remember that on that peaceful beach—where families come to spend the day and seagulls busy themselves flying over small fishing boats—was the very place where the meteor struck millions of years ago. That great asteroid, which triggered the extinction of the dinosaurs, also gave rise to new forms of life and gifted Yucatán’s soil with its unique beauty.

Knowing that Yucatán rests upon an ancient limestone shelf that was once submerged beneath the sea explains this symphony of colors and shapes sculpted by time.
